The Area

Algorfa is a typical Spanish village with a population of 3,000 situated on the banks of the River Segura. As one of the Vega Baja’s citrus farming villages situated amongst orange and lemon groves, Algorfa enjoys a traditional feel and atmosphere.  It is only a short drive inland from the Costa Blanca, but miles apart from the high-rise tourist resorts on the coast.

Algorfa's restaurants, cafes and bars stay open till late in the night and serve good Spanish food as well as a choice of tapas dishes. La Finca Golf Course also boasts an exceptional restaurant. The village has shops including a small supermarket and bakeries, banks and a pharmacy, and Sunday morning brings a typical market to the outskirts of the village.

Just beside the complex “Residential Fontana II” is a municipal area with childrens’ play ground and sports facilities including a 25 metre swimming pool (Euro 1,20 per day), football pitch, tennis and basketball courts.

There is a small neo-gothic church located just outside the village, which was built at the beginning of the nineteenth century and is worth visiting.

Algorfa’s 10 day fiesta takes place mid to end July – programs can be obtained from the local ayuntamente.
